Mount Erice is located on the west coast of Sicily in Italy, overlooking the city of Trapani, the low western coast towards Marsala, the dramatic Punta del Saraceno and Capo San Vito to the north-east, and the Aegadian Islands on Sicily's north-western coast, at an elevation of 750m above the sea level.
The road to reach Erice, Strada Provinciale 3 (also known as SP3) starts in Trapani, a city and comune on the west coast of Sicily in Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Trapani. Founded by Elymians, the city is still an important fishing port and the main gateway to the nearby Egadi Islands.
Starting from Trapani, the Mount Erice ascent is 7,9 km long. Over this distance, the average percentage thus is 9.4 %.

This infamous road is tightly hairpinned and bumped, an exquisite winding mountain drive with sharp and blind curves and hairpin switchbacks leading the traveler over the mountains. The road includes some steep sections, without market central lines, is very narrow, barely wide enough for 2 cars at the same time. The surface of the road is asphalted.
