The road to the lighthouse, Eigerøy fyr, is totally paved but very narrow. It’s a roller-coaster ride with quite a few steep climbs and downhills.
How long is the road to Eigerøy Lighthouse?
Starting at Road Fv65 572, the road to the lighthouse is 2.6km (1.61 miles) long. But the last 1.5km are blocked to private vehicles by a barrier. The road ends in a parking lot. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse.
When was Eigerøy Lighthouse built?
Tucked away on Norway’s southwestern coast, the lighthouse, established in 1854 and automated in 1989, is 32.9 meters tall. It has one of Europe’s strongest lights overlooking the North Sea. The lighthouse was built to ensure the safety of the shipping traffic along the coast. It offers great views at any time, but especially on stormy days. The complex now includes overnight accommodation and a Sunday café in the lighthouse keeper’s residence. The area is prone to strong winds.
