Forte del Gran Serin is a military fortress located at an elevation of 2,602m (8,536ft) above sea level, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Italy. It's one of the highest roads in the country.
What’s Forte del Gran Serin?
The fortress is located in the Piedmont region, in the northern part of Italy. The Gran Serin Fort, also known as Gran Serin Battery, is a fortification built towards the end of the 19th century to defend the north-western borders. It is situated along the Assietta Road, near Colle dell'Assietta. The battery features artillery positions, barracks (including stables for up to 850 soldiers), and a powder magazine, all protected by a long wall. The position covered fire from the top of Assietta to Monte Gran Costa, encompassing the Galambra Valley, Niblè, the Quattro Denti Peak, and the lower Cenischia Valley. Today, the structure is in ruins, and part of the wall is missing.
