Kalikratis is a small mountainous village in Sfakia municipality, southwest Crete, Greece, at the foot of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) at an altitude of 750m above sea level.
It is a traditional village with many well preserved stone houses. During the winter it is covered with snow and most of the villagers move down to the sea coast. The inhabitants produce grain, honey of excellent quality, while quite a few of them are stock breeders with their own flocks of sheep and goat. In the village the visitor can find taverns with traditional cuisine and a few room for rent. The inhabitants are very hospitable and helpful. 
Kallikratis is situated off the beaten tourist path and is made up of four widely separated neighborhoods that are scattered on a small plateauin Lefka Ori with an average altitude of 540m. It can be reached via Myriokefala, Asi Gonia or Asfendos, or via a recently paved road with more than 25 tight hair-pin turns, which starts in Kapsodasos and offers stunning views of the Frangokastello plain and the Libyan Sea in the distance.
Kapsodasos is a small village in southwest Crete, Greece, at an elevation of 120 m above the sea level.
The road between Kallikratis and Kapsodasos is 11km length and the expected time to drive is around 24 minutes, with 27 hairpin turns that take you from sea level to 800 meter high. It was asphalted recently (2006) but the pavement is very narrow. The recently paved road that runs through Kalikratis gorge is scary bumpy, small and empty, without barriers but with great views of Libyan (Southern Cretan) Sea.
