Wakhjir Pass is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.836m (15,866ft) above sea level, located on the border of Afghanistan and China. China has finished building a military road to the pass. It's one of the highest roads in the country.
The pass is located on the border between Wakhan (Afghanistan) and the Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County (China).
China has recently built a new road to the border area, along with additional guard posts. The road is intended for use by Chinese frontier patrols and for the transportation of supplies to border units. It’s totally unpaved. There’s no road on the Afghan part of the pass.
Starting from Keke Tuluke, the road to the pass is 20.3 km (12.61 miles) long. It’s closed to foreigners.
